Missouri lieutenant governor reports raising $6,600 for lawsuit

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Donors have contributed $6,600 to pay for Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder's lawsuit challenging the new federal health care law.

Kinder on Thursday released a list of 150 donors who sent money to help pay for the lawsuit. Most of the contributors live in Missouri, with one contribution each from Colorado, Illinois, South Dakota and New York. The largest contribution was for $300.

Kinder spokesman Gary McElyea says the donor list does not include a few people who gave money after the list was compiled. The lieutenant governor expects the lawsuit to cost $50,000 to $100,000.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau. It contends the health care overhaul exceeds Congress' authority and impedes state sovereignty.
