HICKMAN, Ky. (AP) -- A river ferry that carries mostly local traffic between Hickman, Ky., and Dorena, Mo., is temporarily docked because of high water on the Mississippi River.

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry halted service around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

WPSD-TV in Paducah quoted the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet which said water levels were beginning to interfere with docking and vehicle loading on the Kentucky side.

Ferry Captain Ed Floyd said high water is expected to keep the boat docked until at least sometime next week.

The ferry usually operates continuously on demand during daylight hours.
