CAPE GIRARDEAU -- A fire in a basement electrical box primarily caused smoke damage to a house on Perryville Road Saturday evening and snarled traffic along the route for a period. The fire occurred at 5:54 p.m. at 1941 Perryville Road. A spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Fire Department said the box shorted out, damaging the electrical panel, the main electrical box and charring floor joists along with causing the smoke damage...

The fire occurred at 5:54 p.m. at 1941 Perryville Road.

A spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Fire Department said the box shorted out, damaging the electrical panel, the main electrical box and charring floor joists along with causing the smoke damage.

Fire Station No. 4 responded to the fire.
