Missouri's Speaker of the House will visit Cape Girardeau on Monday, where he will conduct a public forum about the state revenue department's handling of concealed carry weapon permit holders' information.
Tim Jones, R-Chesterfield, Mo., will be joined by Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russ Oliver, according to a news release from the Missouri House of Representatives.
Oliver is acting as a private attorney for a Stoddard County man who filed a lawsuit in March that challenged a requirement that personal documents such as birth certificates and concealed weapons endorsements be scanned into a state computer system.
Department of Revenue representatives have said they copied concealed carry weapons permits as part of the process of issuing driver's licenses, and more recently, the Missouri State Highway Patrol admitted sharing a compiled list of permit holders with the federal Social Security Administration. Republicans in the legislature say both departments' actions were illegal and have called on the Missouri Attorney General's office for an investigation.
The forum will be at 2 p.m. in the Common Pleas Courthouse.
The Missouri Senate Appropriations Committee also will conduct a hearing from 1 to 3 p.m. next Friday at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
