KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The number of home foreclosure filings in Missouri stayed relatively flat in April.
A report released Wednesday by Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac shows 2,698 foreclosure filings in Missouri last month. Filings include default notices, auction-sale notices and bank repossessions.
That's a 0.6 percent drop from March. It's also a 21 percent reduction from April of last year, but that number may be artificially low. RealtyTrac said some of the records included in last year's report stopped being collected in January.
One in every 981 housing units in the state received a foreclosure filing in April, ranking Missouri 30th nationally.
Nevada had the nation's highest foreclosure rate in April -- one in every 68 housing units. Florida was second and California was third.
