Nixon's private home named city landmark

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon now lives in a taxpayer-funded 19th-century gubernatorial mansion overlooking the Missouri River. But his private home isn't too shabby either. The Jefferson City Historic Preservation Commission included Nixon's private home as one of four recently named city landmarks. First lady Georganne Nixon told the Jefferson City News-Tribune that "it's a joy to love this home and to take care of it." The attorney general must live in Jefferson City, and Nixon held that post since from 1993 until he became governor this year. County land records show Nixon's private home is 4,650 square feet and was built in 1930. It's appraised at $245,600.
