KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Flash flood warnings are posted in parts of Missouri as a rain-packed weather system moves through the state, flooding roads and stalling rush-hour traffic.

Very heavy rain is reported in west-central and central Missouri, with more than two inches by daybreak and more on the way. Law officers said U.S. 50 near Sedalia was flooded, and several roads around Boonville have been closed by high water.

Early-morning rain has caused problems for some St. Louis commuters on Interstate 70 north of downtown. There were reports of several cars stranded after water quickly rose several feet, shutting down parts of the busy highway and causing vehicles to stall.
