Despite cold, windy and rainy conditions, Missouri hunters surpassed last year's opening weekend deer kill numbers with a take of 110,191.
The deer numbers were an increase of 19,176 over 1994's opening weekend total of 91,015.
Macon County reported a state-high deer take of 2,754, followed by St. Clair, 2,245, and Howell, 2,104.
The North Central portion of the state, which contains Macon, reported 20,082 deer, the highest of the nine sections. Northeast was a close second at 19,909.
Southeast recorded the smallest deer-kill numbers of the nine quadrants with 5,143. Despite being the lowest in the state, it marked an increase of 866 deer over 1994's opening weekend.
Bollinger County led the southeast area with 917 deer, followed by Wayne, 895, and Perry, 727. Cape Girardeau County reported 410 deer, an increase of 108 over last year.
The following are the southeast Missouri county deer kill totals and the increase or decrease over 1994: Bollinger 917 (+143), Butler 569 (+132), Cape Girardeau 410 (+108), Dunklin 14 (-4), Iron 475 (+51), Madison 546 (+63), Mississippi 85 (+23), New Madrid 50 (+12), Pemiscot 6 (+2), Perry 727 (+87), Scott 124 (+30), Stoddard 325 (+59), Wayne 895 (+157).
One non-fatal accident was reported statewide.
Missouri's deer season, which lasts 11 days, concludes Nov. 21.
