The Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau is expected to rise above flood stage again this week, but this time it won't go up much. According to a flood warning issued Wednesday, the National Weather Service expects the river to reach about 32.5 feet by Sunday morning -- 0.5 feet higher than flood stage at Cape Girardeau -- thanks to recent heavy rains. The river should break flood stage Friday, and stood at 31.2 feet on Thursday. The Mississippi went more than 12 feet above flood stage before hitting its crest in early June, which was the second time major flooding happened on this stretch of the river this spring.
