The Mississippi River has reached its crest at Cape Girardeau and is now on the way down. According to the National Weather Service the river reached its crest of 44.53 feet Friday morning and is starting to fall. Flood stage is 32 feet. So far the Army Corps of Engineers and local emergency officials have reported no major problems associated with the flooding, though river and backwater flooding has closed several area roads...

So far the Army Corps of Engineers and local emergency officials have reported no major problems associated with the flooding, though river and backwater flooding has closed several area roads.

The crest was the eighth highest on record at Cape Girardeau.
