A Mississippi County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison without parole on a felony drug charge.

John David Childers, 35, was sentenced after pleading guilty to one count of aiding and abetting in the manufacture of methamphetamine. He appeared before U.S. District Judge E. Richard Webber Tuesday in Cape Girardeau.

Childers admitted that on or about June 4 he consented to a search of his Mississippi County residence where officers found pseudoephedrine pills cooking on the stove. That is the first step in the preparation of methamphetamine.

In the kitchen area, officers also found a clear container with coffee filters, tubing, a glass jar and five lithium batteries, drain cleaner, plastic bottles and a set of scales, all items deemed indicative of meth manufacturing.

An analysis by the SEMO Regional Crime Lab and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab found the items contained methamphetamine as well as pseudoephedrine.

When he pleaded guilty, Childers admitted the items were being used in an attempt to manufacture methamphetamine.

The case was prosecuted by special assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa Bright-Pearson.
