A Cape Girardeau County resident recovered his missing firearms with the help of a timely phone call, police said.

The man had been missing several guns from his gun cabinet following a burglary and reported the thefts to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department, said Sgt. Barry Hovis, spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

He began calling gun shops and pawnshops around the county trying to locate his missing weapons when he called Shooters of Cape Girardeau and described the firearms he was missing, Hovis said.

When he called, the employee at Shooters recognized the description of the guns because there were two men in the store trying to sell guns of the same description, Hovis said.

The police were called, recovered the weapons and turned the subjects over to the sheriff's department.
