The meeting was called to order by Commander Keith Seabaugh. The color guard advanced the colors, Chaplain Boyd Summers gave the opening prayer. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, and preamble of the American Legion Constitution in unison. A total of 58 members were present. Orville Birk was introduced to the members.
Leonard Adams introduced Kyle Mabuce, who presented the program. He urged everyone to vote for the upcoming bond issue, and to pass the 40-cent levy in the Aug. 8 election, An addition will be built on the present Junior High building, adding 18 new class rooms. Jackson spends $4,300 per student, per year, less than many surrounding districts.
The minutes of the June meeting were approved as printed in the newsletter.
Mike Proctor presented the financial report, which was approved.
Lloyd Law, first vice commander, reported 657 members at present.
Trustees reported an air conditioner had been installed in the commander's office.
Bill Poe gave the club room report, which was accepted as given. Hospital equipment is being used.
Carlton Meyer has ordered more flags and reported on Honor Guard activities.
Public relations chairman Jim Nelson stated that a round of applause is in order for Harlan Siebert, and wife, for taking care of the flower bed on the premises. Members gave him an ovation.
Charles Hutson, Americanism Committee, informed us that two boys will be sent to Boys State this year.
Leon Laurentius gave the House report, which was approved. Leonard Adams presented the bingo report, Kenny Koehler reported that the Junior American Legion boys baseball team won the district championship for the first time, and will advance to the sectional tourney, to be played in Jackson.
Bill Poe gave a report on the state convention, and stated Kelly Shields gave an outstanding speech at the convention. Members approved a gift of $50 for gas.
Officers for the year 2000-2001 were installed as follows, Commander Bill Sullivan; 1st Vice Commander Lloyd Law; 2nd Vice Commander Leonard Adams; Adjutant Virgil Whitener; Service Officer Bill Poe; Chaplain Boyd Summers; Sergeant-at-Arms Don Darnell; Finance Officer Mike Proctor; Historian Jim Nelson; Trustees Bob Hartle and Mike Hyson. The new commander took command.
The names of Kenny Longman, Bill Schweer, Robert Adams, Marvin Landgraf and William Cox were drawn for a pot of $77.25, none present. Kenny Longman was eligible for $77.25, the others, half.
Chaplain Summers gave a memorial prayer, the colors were retired, and the meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m. Refreshments were served by Vince Schwartz and helpers.
