A new series of resource books based on The Mini Page children's newspaper feature will be available to buy starting Friday. The Mini Page appears in more than 500 newspapers across the country, including the Southeast Missourian. The first four titles in the series of resource books are available. Each of the 32-page, soft-cover books deals with a topic related to the school curriculum of children 7 to 10 years old...

A new series of resource books based on The Mini Page children's newspaper feature will be available to buy starting Friday.

The Mini Page appears in more than 500 newspapers across the country, including the Southeast Missourian.

The first four titles in the series of resource books are available. Each of the 32-page, soft-cover books deals with a topic related to the school curriculum of children 7 to 10 years old.

-- "Help for Planet Earth": Ecology is the study of living things and how they relate to each other and the environment. This ecology book teaches children how they can take better care of their surroundings by exploring topics such as air pollution, trash, recycling, landfills, wildlife, rain forest, wetlands, water pollution and water cycles.

-- "Big Ideas in Geography": Geography is the study of the world, the people who live in it, and what they do and why. This book introduces some of geography's big ideas, like location, place, movement, regions and how people change the environment.

-- "Love Your Body, Stay Healthy": Learning to make wise choices is very important to a child's health. This book introduces some healthy choices, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, good habits and avoiding dangerous drugs.

-- "How the U.S. Government Works": Learn about all of the important buildings in Washington, the people who work in them and the kind of work it takes to run the U.S. government. This book includes topics such as lawmakers, government jobs, presidents, justices, the constitution and the system of checks and balances.

The books will be sold in teacher supply stores and can be ordered by calling 1-800-826-EDUC. The books cost $4.95 each.
