Millersville residents, in postal limbo since late February, are finally getting their post office back.
U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson announced Thursday that Millersville's post office will resume office hours on Saturday.
The post office is located adjacent to the fire department building at the corner of County Road 482 and Highway 72.
It will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays.
"It has been a long time coming, but I believe this issue is finally resolved," Emerson said in a written statement. "Reliable postal service is paramount in rural areas."
Several residents were angered about the post office situation. The post office and the previous land owner could not come to terms on a lease, so the modular unit was moved but not hooked up while post office officials decided what to do next.
So beginning in March, people with post office boxes had to pick up their mail at a convenience store in the tiny rural community.
Millersville residents who called the postal service were told by Kansas City officials that it could be months or years before the post office was up and going again.
Emerson then called post office officials in Denver and was able to confirm a new post office site in about a month.
Paula Andrews, the postal worker who had to hand out mail from crowded quarters behind the gas station counter, said she was relieved to be moving into a permanent facility. She said business will be conducted just as it was before the relocation to the convenience store.
The telephone number for the new post office is 243-6105.
