After spending more than seven years helping area residents stay physically fit, Janey Miller is ready to help them stay fit, protection-wise.

Miller opened an American Family Insurance office at 130 South High Street Jan. 3.

"It feels good," Miller said. "I've met a lot of people and I'm learning a lot. I'm excited to be here."

Miller is taking up the slack created by the retirement of Stan Popp in Cape Girardeau and the departure of another American Family agent in the area. She also plans to expand her client base.

"My goal is to build up my agency," she said. "I want to get started on the right foot. I want to invite people to stop by and see me for a quote."

Miller, who recently completed a course in Series VI Federal Securities Licensing, can offer a full range of American Family policies, including auto, home, life, health, farm and business coverage.

Miller has been in Jackson since 1991, working at Main Street Fitness 1992-1999. She has two children, Timothy, 14, and Theresa, 11. Both are students at Immaculate Conception School. Miller is actively involved in the school and in Immaculate Conception Church. She is also a member of the Bel-Air Investment Club.

She finds her new career very agreeable.

"I really like working for American Life," Miller said. "They're a good company. I enjoy being a part of their family."

Located across High Street from Jer's Restaurant, Miller's agency is open 8:30-5, Monday through Friday and 9-12 on Saturdays. Her phone number is 243-6377.
