MILL SPRING, Mo. -- An early morning shooting Wednesday in Mill Spring has left one man dead and another in jail charged with the murder.

Wayne County sheriff's deputy Bobby Burch said an autopsy was planned for Bobby G. Clyburn, 36, of Mill Spring.

Authorities think Clyburn died from a "single gunshot wound to the head."

Jon Kiser, prosecuting attorney for Wayne County, has charged Elvis P. Walker, 43, of Mill Spring with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Clyburn's death.

Walker, who is being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail, was expected to be arraigned Wednesday or today before Associate Circuit Judge Randy Schuller.

Burch said the sheriff's department received a telephone call at 1:47 a.m. Wednesday reporting an apparent homicide at the Tommy Street residence in the Black River Retreat area south of Piedmont, Mo.

A witness ran from the Street residence to a neighbor's home to call the sheriff's office."

Burch said a witnesses had run to the neighbor's home and told them that Walker was chasing another witness outside the Street residence.

As deputies headed to the apartment, the witness reported that Walker was leaving in a white Ford pickup, Burch said.

Walker was stopped on Highway 49 near Leeper, Mo., and was arrested without incident, Burch said.

A rifle was found in his truck, Burch said.

Deputies found Clyburn's body lying on the kitchen floor, Burch said.

There were four other people at the residence, besides Clyburn and Walker, at the time of the alleged shooting.

Authorities were not releasing the motive, but described Walker and Clyburn as being "almost brothers. Where one was, the other was."
