Members of Leadership Missouri, Kevin Hall, left, Kurt Zimmer, right, and Dan Storey, center, listen as chief Rick Ennis of the Cape Girardeau Fire Department speaks Thursday about the sprinkler system installed in one room of an empty house. The fire department was conducting a controlled sprinkler system demonstration for the group. The department lit two rooms of the house on fire. One room had a sprinkler, the other did not. Thirty-four Leadership Missouri members from across the state, including four local members, on Thursday explored safety and defense techniques. Members spent half the day at the Cape Girardeau Police Department learning about technology advancements; they heard from the SEMO Drug Task Force, evidence collection and from a member of the Cape Girardeau and Bollinger County Major Case Squad; and they experienced a K-9 demonstration. Members went to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department for a community emergency response team presentation, followed by the controlled sprinkler system demonstration.
