Lectures by Edwin Meese III and M. Stanton Evans, which were taped when they spoke in Cape Girardeau, will be replayed Wednesday as part of expanded programming for Cape Girardeau's Public Access Channel 5.

The Meese lecture will air at 7 p.m. and Evans' lecture at 8:15 p.m. The same two presentations will be aired again on June 18, starting at 7 p.m.

Meese and Evans appeared at Southeast Missouri State University in April.

During his lecture, Meese, former U.S. attorney general, said: "I think we're badly overtaxed in this country, and that in itself is an infringement upon freedom. When the government decides how to spend your money instead of you deciding, that's a considerable limitation of your liberty."

During his visit here, conservative commentator M. Stanton Evans said liberals are wrong about everything. "The deeper meaning ... is my contention that liberals are wrong about all the details because they're wrong about all the fundamentals," Evans said.

The programming expansion for Channel 5 begins tonight at 7 p.m. with a program called "City Source," a monthly informational show produced by the city of Cape Girardeau. "Chamber Matters," a program from the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, follows at 7:30 p.m., and a replay of Monday's City Council meeting airs at 8 p.m.

"City Source" can also be seen at noon Friday and June 20, and at 7 p.m. June 17. "Chamber Matters" will be aired again at 7:30 p.m. June 17, followed by a tape of the June 16 Cape Girardeau Board of Education meeting.

On June 9 at 7 p.m., the inauguration of Southeast President Dr. Dale Nitzschke will be shown. A speech by former Illinois Sen. Paul Simon follows. The two programs will be repeated beginning at 7 p.m. on June 23.

On June 10 at 7 p.m., "Behind the Badge," a program produced by the Cape Girardeau Police Department, will air. It will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by "Independently Speaking," a program from the SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence. "Public Forum," a program produced by Southeast University, will air at 8 p.m. The lineup will be repeated on June 24.

Additionally, "Behind the Badge" will be replayed at noon June 13 and 27.

On June 11 at 7 p.m., the Low lecture, taped during the university's inauguration week, will be shown, followed by a tape of the Global Rhythm tour, the International Carnival, the flag dedication and signing of papers making Southeast eligible to offer a doctorate in educational administration. These programs will be shown again June 25.

The Cape Girardeau City Council can be seen live on Channel 5 on June 16 and will be replayed at noon on June 18.

Individuals and organizations in Cape Girardeau wishing to air their programs on Channel 5 should contact the city's public awareness office at 335-8556.
