Some Cape Girardeau MedAssets employees will be losing their jobs now that the company has completed its acquisition of the Texas-based Broadlane Group.

Both companies provide supply chain management for hospitals and other medical care facilities. Staff reductions are being made as a result of "overlapping capabilities," said Robert P. Borchert, MedAssets spokesman.

MedAssets would not comment specifically on the number of employees who will be eliminated at its Cape Girardeau office or when they would be notified. MedAssets employs about 160 people in Cape Girardeau.

"The impact to individuals in our Cape Girardeau office is very minimal," Borchert said. "This office will continue to be an important location to MedAssets."

Previously, MedAssets had 14 offices, but it will now operate 22 offices with 3,000 employees.
