Meadow Heights bookkeeper fired over accounting 'discrepancies'

PATTON, Mo. -- Missing money at the Meadow Heights School District has prompted the firing of an employee and an investigation by local law enforcement.

Superintendent Mike Miller confirmed Thursday that a criminal investigation was taking place following the firing of a bookkeeper.

"We have found some discrepancies, but at this point we don't know how much money we're talking about," Miller said.

Auditors were called in this week to review the district's finances. A report is expected sometime next week.

No criminal charges have been filed at this point.

Lt. Danny Bird with the Bollinger County Sheriff's Department would say only that his department is "doing some checking."

A message left for Meadow Heights School Board president Harold Miinch was not returned Thursday.
