PATTON -- The Meadow Heights Board of Education met Monday to review four applicants for the job of superintendent for the school district.
Monday was the deadline for candidates to put their names forward for consideration.
Board President Roy Allen said board members looked at resumes of the four candidates Monday in a closed meeting. He will contact the applicants and board members will be checking references before any decisions are made.
Tom Waller, the former Meadow Heights superintendent, resigned July 12 after questions were raised about reporting student attendance to Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
A review by Allen, the school's attorney, and state education officials revealed that 17 fictitious student names were added to the school's roster for 1990-91 and 1991-92. The review hasn't pointed to who is responsible. Adding fake students to school enrollment figures could have generated as much as an additional $34,000 for the school district.
Elementary principal Cheri Fuemmeler has been acting superintendent since July 12. Classes start Aug. 21.
