Volunteers are urgently needed for various duties to participate in the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. The Telethon, which will air on KFVS12 on Monday, September 6, will originate part of its local segments from Illinois Centre in Marion, Ill.

"Volunteers are needed in all kinds of functions, from answering the pledge phones on camera to escorting guests to the proper place within the mall," stated Tammy Wubker, MDA District Director. "Those who wish to help can volunteer all day or any three-hour part of the day." To call to volunteer, the number is 573-3354400.

The Telethon will begin at 7 a.m., following The Breakfast Show. It will run continuously until 6:30 p.m., when it will be followed by Heartland News at a special time. Segments from Illinois Centre will again be hosted by KFVS12 meteorologist Charlie Neese and reporter Lisa Crane.

Volunteers can work any of three shows, each three hours in length. The first shift begins at 7 a.m., when the show begins. A second show will start at 10 a.m., a third show at l p.m., and the last shift at 4 p.m. Eleven different areas are available. They range from telephone answerer to envelope stuffer to pledge tabulator and usher. Those who can't help on Labor Day, but would still like to assist the Telethon should call the same number mentioned above, 3354400.

Illinois Centre is hosting the Telethon for the fifth straight year.

Proceeds from the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. The Association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual, private contributors.
