MCCLURE, Ill. - The American Legion and Auxiliary are busy with final plans for the McClure July Fourth Community Festival. The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. when the food and games stands open. MCCLURE, Ill. - The American Legion and Auxiliary are busy with final plans for the McClure July Fourth Community Festival. The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. when the food and games stands open.

There will be a variety of entertainment throughout the day. The Little Miss Independence and Little Uncle Sam contest will be held at 3 p.m. for youngsters in kindergarten through the sixth grade.

The greased pig contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. Competition is divided into two age groups: five to eight, and nine through 12.

The day will end with a fireworks display at 9 p.m.

The American Legion post is now accepting applications until June 26 for the Miss Independence and Uncle Sam contest. The deadline is also June 26 for anyone wanting space for a food or game booth.
