MCCLURE, ILL., YOUTH EARNS SCHOLASTIC AWARDS

McCLURE, Ill. Rollie Clay Matlock, 17, son of Rollie B. and Kathy Matlock of McClure, have been awarded scholarships from the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna and the Mason organization.

Matlock plans to attend Shawnee Community College in Ullin in the fall. He will pursue a degree in secondary education.

While in high school, Matlock was active in FFA, theater and band. He was chosen to be a regional band member for three years and was recently chosen by his peers to receive the John Phillip Sousa Award. He was also honored for academic achievement by the Gazette-Democrat and local Illinois businesses, the Southern Illinois Society for Achievement and the Anna-Jonesboro Rotary Club.
