CREIGHTON, Mo. -- The mayor of Creighton in west-central Missouri will face a court date next month on charges he threatened two residents with a handgun.

Robert Schur, 65, has been charged with two counts of exhibiting a deadly weapon following an alleged incident last month in Creighton, about 50 miles south of Kansas City.

According to court documents: Schur drove to a house on the afternoon of April 22, yelling obscenities. When the resident approached Schur, the mayor allegedly pointed a handgun at the man. Schur allegedly claimed that people would give him an alibi if he killed the man.

Schur stayed for between 30 and 40 minutes, waving the gun around as he complained about the man's unkempt yard and other various topics.

The resident's mother audiotaped some of the exchange and gave the tape to the Cass County sheriff's office.

A second man claims Schur pointed a semiautomatic handgun at him earlier that afternoon. The man told police that Schur got out of his pickup truck and said, "I'm taking you down. I'm the new cop in town."

The man said he went inside and Schur drove away.

When questioned by police by telephone, Schur allegedly said, "It's true. I pointed a gun at him. I'm sick of these in this town. Somebody's got to do something about them."

Schur was arrested when a Creighton police officer saw him at a third home, where he allegedly pounded on and kicked in the front door, but no one answered.

The officer reported that Schur smelled of alcohol and slurred his speech.

Schur is scheduled to appear in court June 11. Schur has declined to comment on the charges.
