In a letter to Cape Girardeau County Clerk Rodney Miller after the election, Stovall requested a recount.

But Miller said Thursday that he subsequently informed Stovall that a petition would have to be filed in circuit court before any recount would be ordered.

As of Thursday, no official request for a recount had been received. Stovall could not be reached to comment but a family member indicated that Stovall had decided against seeking a recount.
