More than 700 students from 36 area schools competed in the annual Math Field Day on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. The event was sponsored by Southeast's Department of Mathematics and the Southeast Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Area winners for Individual Open Events:
Cape Central Junior High School: Johnathan Anderson, fourth place in geometry; Matt Hawkins, third place in geometry.
Cape Central Senior High School: Adam Bryant, first place in algebra; Alice Chen, fifth place in computer programming; Bryan Daume, second place in trigonometry; Aaron Hessenkemper, first place in probability.
Notre Dame High School: Tom Berkbigler, third place in probability; Jeremy Bratton, third place in algebra and first place in sets and logic; Kristy Jansen, second place in geometry and fifth place in mental arithmetic; Jennifer Layton fourth place in algebra and first place in trigonometry; Ben LeGrand, second place in probability and third place in trigonometry; Scott Reinagel, third place in mental arithmetic.
Jackson Junior High School: Andrew Luehrs, fourth place in mental arithmetic; Raegan Scheper, first place in geometry.
Leopold High School: Jennifer Peters, fifth place in sets and logic; David Turner, second place in mental arithmetic.
Meadow Heights High School: Pete Palermo, fourth place in history of math.

Cape Central Senior High School: Ann Schnurbusch, sponsor, won third place.
Notre Dame High School won second place and Cape Central High School placed third in the mathletics competition.
