The Cpl. Mason O. Yarbrough Detachment No. 1081 will hold the 2005 Midwest Division Marine Corps League Fall Conference at Drury Lodge Friday and Saturday.
The Midwest Division is comprised of officers and members of detachments from the Departments of Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. More than 150 Marine Corps League and Marine Corps League Auxiliary are preregistered.
Participating senior officers include National Commandant MCL, Frank S. Kish, National Vice Commandant MCL MW Div., Gerald Moorehead, National President MCLA, Ruth Moyse and National Vice President MCLA MW Div., Darlene Graham.
The Cpl. Mason O. Yarbrough Detachment received its charter in 2001 and was chosen among 15 other detachments to serve as host for the department annual conference in 2003. Three of its officers are now Department of Missouri officers.
National Vice Commandant MCL MW Div. Moorehead will present the Yarbrough Detachment with the 2005 National Americanism Award during Saturday's business meeting for accomplishments achieved during the year. The award is national recognition of the detachment's participation in the Toys for Tots program, community parades and fairs, the Marine Rose Program, providing military funeral honors for more than 130 veterans, working with the local veteran's home and maintaining documentation of these activities.
During the business meeting Division Officers of the MCL and the MCLA will conduct the affairs of the division and share information on league programs and issues.
The culminating event will be a posthumous appointment to the late Sam Gearhart from the Central Missouri Detachment in Jefferson City as an Honorary Division Vice Commandment.
