Marijuana seized after delivery to wrong address

Officers from the Cape Girardeau Police Department and the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force seized about 25 pounds of marijuana that was mistakenly delivered to the wrong address.

The person who received the delivery in error immediately notified the police.

When Eduardo Hernandez, 28, and Jose A. Tovar, 34, both citizens of Mexico, arrived at the address to retrieve the package, they were met by undercover officers.

They admitted they intended to transport the package to St. Louis, said police spokesman Sgt. Barry Hovis.

Tovar and Hernandez gave Missouri addresses, but were not here legally, Hovis said.

They were each charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Bond was set at $20,000.

It was one of the most significant drug seizures since 2006, Hovis said.

The haul had a street value of about $40,000, Hovis said.
