The Gamma Sigma Sigma service sorority at Southeast Missouri State University plans to collect a mile of dimes for the March of Dimes at Capaha Park during the Broadway Mile Run April 12.
The run, called the Bunny Run this year, begins at Capaha Park and ends at the riverfront. In addition to the competitive race, a fun walk will be held.
The run is sponsored by the recreation sports office at Southeast Missouri State University.
Entry fees for the race are not part of the fund-raising effort. The two events are being held at the same time.
March of Dimes Area Director Sheila Bagby said the mile of dimes is the oldest fund-raising project of the March of Dimes.
A mile of dimes equals $9,051. In preparation for the event, the student organization sold roses for Valentine's Day and plans a hot dog and Pepsi sale April 4.
The March of Dimes is working to prevent birth defects.
