A Marble Hill, Missouri, woman used access through her employer, a Jackson dentist, to write fraudulent prescriptions to obtain opioid pain pills and other controlled substances, police said.

Jackson police arrested Leanna Renee Boyer, 38, on Tuesday.

The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged her with one count of fraudulently attempting to obtain a controlled substance. Boyer’s bond was set at $7,500 cash or surety.

CVS pharmacy in Cape Girardeau told the owner of A Certain Smile a woman had been into the pharmacy with a prescription for Percocet with the dentist’s signature, according to a probable-cause statement filed by Jackson police officer Travis Keller.

Jackson police contacted the dentist, who said the only way someone could obtain such a prescription was through her secured server, and the only people who had access were her employees, Keller wrote.

An audit of the computer system revealed 47 deleted records, including one received Tuesday by CVS, according to the statement.

After being read her Miranda rights, Boyer admitted to her employer and police she had written the prescriptions fraudulently using the computer system, Keller wrote.

Boyer used her own name and six other names on 37 different dates to obtain controlled substances fraudulently between Aug. 1 and Oct. 24.

Boyer told police she was threatened in July by an unnamed male who told her to obtain pills until he was satisfied.

Jackson police are investigating this detail and other elements of the case.
