MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- For the second time, voters in Marble Hill voted against redirecting the half-cent sales tax from capital improvement to the general fund.

The vote failed 249-212. In the Marble Hill precinct it squeaked past by a vote, but the defeat came mostly from the Lutesville precinct.

Mayor Michael Sowers said he appreciates that so many people came out to vote.

"We will try to re-establish the city budget," Sowers said. "First there are lot of steps to balance the budget, and we will continue to do so. We will continue to run the city in a competent way and maintain the general fund account."
