MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Marble Hill voters gave solid approval to a half-cent sales tax that will take effect Jan. 1. At the same time, city property taxes will be rolled back.
Voters in the Marble Hill and Lutesville precincts voted 181 to 90 to pass the sales tax.
"I think the citizens of Marble Hill made a very, very wise decision," Mayor Russell Masterson said. "By the middle of next year we will see the results from this. I am happy for this decision, and Marble Hill is going to be better for it. I want to thank the citizens and voters of Marble Hill for their participation and for doing the right thing."
The half-cent sales tax is expected to bring in $125,000 in capital funds, which will free up general revenue funds to be used for projects that Marble Hill has so far been unable to afford.
