A 15-year-old Woodland High School student died Sunday evening as the result of a one-vehicle accident. His mother, the driver of the vehicle he was in, was issued tickets for careless and imprudent driving, not wearing a seatbelt and failure to secure a child under 16 in a seatbelt.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sandra Dunn, 36, of Marble Hill was northbound at 2:18 p.m., in a 2004 Chevrolet on Highway B, three miles south of Scopus, when she lost control of the vehicle on wet pavement. The car ran off the left side of the road and overturned, ejecting Dunn and her son, Aaron McKinney of Marble Hill.

Dunn was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center. Her injuries were listed as moderate.

McKinney was taken to the same hospital by Arch Air Medivac helicopter. According to the patrol, he died there at 8:42 p.m.

Administrators at Woodland High School announced the news of McKinney's death in school Monday morning. The school has made counselors available for grieving students.
