MARBLE HILL -- Mitchell S. Nanney of Marble Hill has received a President's Scholarship and a Missouri Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University during the 1992-1993 academic year. The President's Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who rank in the upper 15 percent of their high school class and score 23 on the ACT or who rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class and score 24 on the ACT or who graduate as their class valedictorian or salutatorian...

MARBLE HILL -- Mitchell S. Nanney of Marble Hill has received a President's Scholarship and a Missouri Leadership Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University during the 1992-1993 academic year. The President's Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who rank in the upper 15 percent of their high school class and score 23 on the ACT or who rank in the upper 20 percent of their high school class and score 24 on the ACT or who graduate as their class valedictorian or salutatorian.

The scholarship is worth $1,000 per academic year and is renewable for four years if the student maintains a 3.5 grade point average on a four-point scale.

The Missouri Leadership Award is a one-year award of $500 and is designed for Missouri students who have demonstrated leadership and academic abilities.

Nanney is the son of Melvin and Sibyl Nanney of Marble Hill and will graduate this spring from Woodland R-4 High School. There, he has won the Danforth "I Dare You" Award, the Army Scholar Athlete Award and the All-American Scholar Award.

He also is Beta Club vice president and has won basketball awards for most assists and high scoring, and baseball awards for runs batted in, batting, stolen bases and most valuable player. He also was named "Mr. Varsity of Woodland High School 1991." He plans to major in accounting at Southeast.
