MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Nearly a year after a pit bull was killed and its body torched, a Marble Hill man finds himself still navigating the court system in an attempt to clear his name of a misdemeanor animal abuse charge.
Levi W. Snider, 29, had an initial arraignment set for Sept. 20, but Snider asked for a continuance with no new court date announced by Judge Robert Edward Fulton. Since Bollinger County deputies found the charred carcass near County Road 318 on Oct. 24, Snider has seen court dates rescheduled at least a half dozen times after the change of venue was granted to Madison County.
The case of Snider's co-defendant, 28-year-old Travis Reed, meanwhile, ended in April after Reed pleaded guilty two months before to the charge of littering for having improperly disposed of the remains by allegedly placing it upon premises that were not his.
Deputies say Snider, who initially denied it, admitted early on that he shot the dog through the shoulder after it charged him. Reed allegedly told police that Snider had told him he shot the dog because its barking had ruined his hunting.
Punishment for this charge carries up to a year in the county jail.
