MARBLE HILL, Mo. — As Bollinger County proceeds with its mapping project, those who are involved with it have found the city of Marble Hill may have to renumber its residential addresses to conform with county coordinates.
Bollinger County Assessor Rhonda Elfrink told the Marble Hill Board of Aldermen on Monday night street numbers be changed to four-digit numbers to stay in sequence with the county address numbers. Additionally, some residents may have to change their address depending where their mailboxes and driveways are.
If a resident’s house faces one street but the mailbox or driveway is on a different street, the address will change to the street where the driveway is. In the case of Alderman Jackie Jenkins, whose house faces Highway 51 but his driveway enters from Church Street, his address will become Church Street and a four-digit number to be determined by the post office.
Elfrink said there still are questions about the new addresses that need to be worked out. The post office will make the final determination, but she is working with the county and city to give names to a few unnamed streets and to rename some streets that are duplicated. Addresses in all communities in Bollinger County ultimately will be renumbered, she said, but for the most part, the street names will remain the same.
“As far as public safety is concerned, the response time will be easier,” Elfrink said.
The board of aldermen gave its approval to go with the renumbering to keep in conformity with the rest of the county. Once the post office has renumbered current residences, as well as vacant lots and empty houses, in the city, it will be up to the residents to switch over to the new addresses.
