According to Theresa Hinkebein, curriculum coordinator, here's what other schools in the Cape Girardeau School District are doing to prepare for MAP: n Alma Schrader Elementary: The Southeast Missouri State University football coach and players gave a motivational speech, a Parent's Guide to the MAP was sent home, a Musical MAP review was conducted, pledges were posted in the hallways and a 50s-themed MAP wrap-up party will be held...

According to Theresa Hinkebein, curriculum coordinator, here's what other schools in the Cape Girardeau School District are doing to prepare for MAP:

  • Alma Schrader Elementary: The Southeast Missouri State University football coach and players gave a motivational speech, a Parent's Guide to the MAP was sent home, a Musical MAP review was conducted, pledges were posted in the hallways and a 50s-themed MAP wrap-up party will be held.

n Clippard Elementary: All classes took a simulation MAP test, students in grades kindergarten through second grade adopted older students and sent them motivational notes, cards, and posters, and a Dr. Seuss theme was adopted for motivation and will feature dress-up days.

n Blanchard Elementary: Students will be allowed to run through the halls before and after testing, a "Testing First Aid Kit" was prepared, students have been practicing and singing MAP songs, classrooms were adopted by other classrooms to be their cheerleaders and students will earn points during testing to attend a post-MAP pizza celebration.

n Franklin Elementary: Students will wear their pajamas the day before testing to remind them of the importance of getting good night's sleep, a MAP simulation was given, lower grades adopted students in older grades to support them, a rally was held, and students will earn daily awards, such as extra recess or participation in a volleyball game, for good testing behavior.

  • Jefferson Elementary: The school has adopted the theme of Motivation, Achievement, Promise for the MAP; dress-up days were held, such as hat day to "wear your think cap"; Southeast's hip hop dance team attended a rally; lower grades adopted older grades; orange and black tablecloths were placed in the cafeteria; and a post-MAP fling will be held.
  • Central Junior High: Students will earn free time in the gym for good behavior and students who scored as proficient or advanced last year were recognized over the intercom
  • Central High School: Snacks will be offered during testing and top performers will be recognized over the intercom.

n Alternative Education Center: Daily "shout outs" for effort and behavior will be announced over the intercom.
