MANY PUBLIC OFFICES TO OBSERVE HOLIDAYS, CLOSE TODAY, MONDAY

State and county employees in Missouri and Illinois will enjoy a four-day holiday this weekend because of the observance today of Lincoln's Birthday and Monday of President's Day.

Federal and municipal employees will only have Monday off.

Schools in Missouri will be open today, but closed in Illinois, where Lincoln's Birthday is a state holiday. On Monday, Missouri schools will be closed, but Illinois schools will be open.

Southeast Missouri State University will be open Friday and Monday.

The Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Chaffee license fee offices will be closed Friday and Monday. The Jackson license bureau will be open on Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-noon. However, the Jackson office only handles motor vehicle transactions on Saturday and does not process driver's licenses on that day.

There will be no driver's or commercial driver's license examination and road tests given Friday at the Naval Reserve Center in Cape Girardeau, or at the Jackson National Guard Armory on Monday.

All banks and financial institutions will be open Friday, but closed Monday.

The Cape Girardeau federal building will be open Friday and closed on Monday.

Municipal offices in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Chaffee and Scott City will be open Friday. All city offices in the Cape area will be closed on Monday.

There will be no Monday solid waste pickup in Cape Girardeau. Monday's route will be run Tuesday, and Tuesday's route on Wednesday. There will be no Wednesday special pickup in Cape Girardeau.

There will be no solid waste pickup in Jackson or Scott City on Monday. The Jackson landfill will be closed Monday. There will be a solid waste pickup on Monday in Chaffee.

The Cape Girardeau Post office will be open Friday with normal window hours. There will be box and home distribution of mail on Friday and Saturday. The post office will be closed Monday. There will be no box or home mail delivery. Mail posted in designated pickup boxes will be picked up Monday afternoon.
