PERRYVILLE -- Perry County's commissioners face a crowded field of challengers in their re-election bids.

All three incumbents are Republicans.

Presiding Commissioner Karl J. Klaus, who is seeking re-election to a third four-year term, faces opposition in the August Republican primary from Richard H. Brickhaus and Roger Lynn Hoff, both of Perryville.

Harley J. Geile of Perryville is the lone Democratic candidate for presiding commissioner.

Eastern District Commissioner Melvin Moldenhauer, who was elected in 1986 along with a number of other current incumbents, faces opposition in the Republican primary from Gregory K. Unger of Frohna, and Oliver G. Bachmann and Dennis E. Lohmann, both of Perryville Route 6.

The race will be decided in the primary as there is no Democratic candidate for the post.

Mike Yamnitz is seeking a second two-year term as western district commissioner. He faces opposition in the Republican primary from Terry L. Miederhoff and Dale G. Hoff, both of Perryville Route 3, Nelson E. Kirn of Perryville and Carl R. "Corky" Leuckel of Perryville Route 5.

Leuckel previously served as commissioner before losing to Yamnitz in the last election.

The winner of the primary will face Democrat Donald A. Welker of Perryville Route 2 in the November election.

Collector Rodney J. Richardet, a Republican, faces opposition in the August primary from Pearl C. Petzoldt of Perryville. The winner is assured of election as no Democrat filed for the post.

County Clerk Randy Taylor, Prosecuting Attorney Thomas Hoeh, Treasurer Veronica J. "Ronnie" Hershey, Circuit Clerk/Recorder Donna Guemmer and Associate Circuit Judge Michael Bullerdieck are unopposed for re-election. All five are Republicans.

The filing period ended Tuesday.
