CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Manhattan Marimba Quartet, a New York-based professional ensemble, will bring its unique sound to Cape Girardeau on Tuesday.
The program will include classics by Bach, Mozart and Gershwin, along with some lighthearted ragtime and one or two contemporary pieces composed for the group.
The performance begins at 8 p.m. at Academic Auditorium.
Forming the quartet are Kory Grossman, James Preiss, Bill Ruyle and William Trigg. The group began as an outgrowth of a master class given by Preiss in 1979 at the Manhattan School of Music.
The New York Times has said of the group, "In a word, they are great."
The concert is free with a university ID, Council on the Arts membership card or Community Concert card. Tickets are $3 for the general public and $1.50 for students and senior citizens.
