Manchester police chief Tim Walsh pushed for the ban. He says the city has accidents every day caused by distracted driving.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Manchester now bans sending, reading or writing a text while driving.

The ordinance allows fines up to $1,000. The court may impose sentences up to 90 days.
