Wanted: City manager who can demonstrate leadership.

The Cape Girardeau City Council Monday agreed to place leadership ahead of public relations ability in the job description.

At the study session prior to the regular meeting, the council also agreed to advertise for a new city manager in several industry publications and general circulation newspapers.

The council plans to begin advertising the position by May, with June 15 as the application deadline.

City Manager J. Ronald Fischer plans to retire by Aug. 1.
