The FBI said in a news release Thursday that the same person may be responsible for robbing four banks along Interstate 55 since May, including one bank in Cape Girardeau.
The news release said in all four cases, the suspect used a demand note and did not show a weapon but implied he was armed. The news release describes the "I-55 Bandit" as 18 to 25 years old, 6 foot to 6 foot 3 inches tall and thin with short brown hair.
The news release encourages anyone with any information to call FBI St. Louis at 314-589-2500 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477. More information about each case is available at bandittrackerstlouis.com, along with details and photos for each case.
The bandit is believed to be responsible for robbing banks in Edwardsville, Ill., Crystal City, Mo., Arnold, Mo., and the May 21 robbery of First State Community Bank in Cape Girardeau.
