A man was shot in the leg with a small-caliber weapon Sunday night, according to Cape Girardeau Police Department public information officer Sgt. Joey Hann.
Hann said it "sounds like non-life-threatening injuries" and the victim was transported to Saint Francis Medical Center by ambulance.
Police received the call at 7:52 p.m., Hann said.
He said there was original reporting of "a bunch of juveniles that were involved in some altercation" around East Rodney Drive and Hawthorne Road. Hann said he believed the victim may have walked to his address or a friend's address in the 2700 block of Hawthorne after the incident.
Hann said he does not know whether the victim is a juvenile.
He said police are currently considering a "light skinned, black male in his late 20s or early 30s" as a suspect.
