A man was arrested Sunday night after a fight in a Lorimier Street apartment turned into a stabbing, police said.

At 10 p.m., four people involved in the incident were being treated at Southeast Missouri Hospital, and officers were trying to sort out details, according to Sgt. Kevin Orr of the Cape Girardeau Police Department, who added that a fifth person may have been involved.

Orr said the stabbing victim called police from an apartment at 124 S. Lorimier St. around 9 p.m. Officers arrived on the scene, went around to the apartment entrance at the back of the building and found a man lying at the foot of a set of exterior stairs, bleeding from his right arm and face.

Officers went up the stairs and into the apartment and found a man who had been stabbed in the abdomen, another man with cuts to the face from fighting and a woman with injuries to her back and a knee, Orr said.

Because police were investigating, Orr declined to name the victims or suspects, but confirmed one person had been arrested. He added that he thought all were Cape Girardeau residents.

"There is a very strong possibility there will be other people that could face charges on this before it's all over," he said.

Orr said the weapon was a small kitchen-type knife and said some of the people involved in the incident had been drinking alcohol.
