Man seriously injured in crash after police chase near Advance, Mo.

ADVANCE, Mo. -- A 29-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a crash following a police chase Sunday afternoon near Advance, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Kevin Hefner, 29, of McGee, Mo., was driving a 1988 Ford Taurus southbound on Highway 25, four miles north of Advance at 2:44 a.m. when he was pursued by police at high speeds. Hefner ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree. He was ejected from the vehicle.

He was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. The highway patrol did not report why Hefner was being pursued.
