A 29-year-old man was attacked and robbed by six men shortly after midnight Monday, Cape Girardeau Police reported.
At approximately 12:15 a.m., the man was walking south on Park Street near the intersection of Merriwether Street coming home from a friend's house, Cpl. Kevin Orr said. He heard a noise behind him and was suddenly attacked by six men, who he said were black. All had short hair, except one that was bald, the man told police.
As one man knocked the victim to the ground, two others grabbed his arms. Another of the six forced his face into the ground after a rope was tied around his neck. Someone else then pulled a wallet from the man's back pocket as he lay on the ground and removed an undisclosed sum of money, Orr said.
As the man fought his way up, one of the six slashed at him twice with a knife. The man reported receiving two "welts" on his stomach from the knife, police said.
After that, the six men ran off in an undetermined direction, Orr said."There aren't too many ways they could've gone if the victim said he heard them coming up behind him as he was walking south," Orr said.
The man reported the incident to police about a hour later, Orr said.
Police do not have any suspects in the attack.
