A Madison County man was killed in a traffic accident, and several others were injured on regional roads Wednesday.
A 54-year-old man was killed Wednesday when he lost control of his vehicle on the slippery pavement on U.S. Highway 67 in Madison County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Carl Bulger, of Moscow Hills, was pronounced dead the scene after his 1994 Chevrolet ran off the road as he was northbound on U.S. 67 at Cherokee Pass at 5:50 p.m. The vehicle struck two trees before coming to rest.
A passenger in the car, Ruth Hill, 51, also of Moscow Hills, was taken to Madison County Hospital with serious injuries.
A 2-year-old Dudley girl died Wednesday from injuries incurred in an auto accident on Jan. 8 in Stoddard County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Maranda Fugate was injured in a single-car accident on Route U 3 1/2 miles west of Bernie at 6:30 a.m. The accident occurred when the 1994 Oldsmobile her mother Donna Fugate, 25, of Dudley, was driving left the road and overturned in a ditch.
She was first taken to Dexter Memorial Hospital with serious injuries then transferred to Children's Hospital in St. Louis where she died.
Donna Fugate received moderate injuries in the accident.
A Malden girl was seriously injured Wednesday when the car she was driving slid in front of an oncoming train.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sharon Hastings, 16, was driving a 1992 Ford Ranger pickup when she failed to stop at a train crossing and was struck by a 1994 Southern Pacific train towing 91 cars at 7:07 a.m. The vehicle was struck on the left side and thrown into a ditch where it overturned.
Two passengers in the truck, James Hastings, 37, and James Hastings Jr., 14, received minor injuries. All three were taken to Dexter Memorial Hospital and Sharon Hastings was later transferred to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
The driver of the train, Carl Estes, 52, of Scott City, was not injured.
Police said the crossing was not guarded by gates or warning lights but the train did utilize its whistle, bell and lights as it approached the intersection.
A Pennsylvania woman was seriously injured in an auto accident Wednesday morning on Interstate 57. Jeanne Calderone, 50, of Baden, Penn., was taken to Union County Hospital with major injuries after the car she was riding in was struck by a semi-truck near the Dongola exchange on I-57 at 10 a.m.
